Saint Ronan's Well

''Saint Ronan's Well''〔''Saint Ronan's Well'' is the spelling used by the Edinburgh critical edition, whose editor notes that it is the version Scott himself preferred in his manuscript, although the first edition appeared with the title ''St Ronan's Well''. See Walter Scott, ''Saint Ronan's Well'', edited by Mark Weinstein (Edinburgh University Press, 1995), p. 416.〕 is a novel by Sir Walter Scott. It is the only novel he wrote with a 19th-century setting.
==Plot introduction==
The novel concerns the rivalry of two men: Valentine Bulmer, the Earl of Etherington, and his half-brother Francis Tyrrel. Both wish to marry Miss Clara Mowbray, who is the sister of John, the laird of Saint Ronan’s.
